Robotics with Mr. Crowe!
In term 3 one morning, my great teacher, Miss Percy asked Mr. Crowe from Wesley Intermediate to come to our class to teach us about Robotix. Room 13 were so excited to see Mr. Crowe and what he had brought to show us. He brought cars with their own controllers! The best two parts about the cars were:
1. you could put them behind a barcode and the car would do what the barcode said the car could do on each barcode.
2. WE COULD PUT LEGO ON THE CARS!
Watch the video because after we put the Lego on, there was a competition and the cars were in a wrestling place. The winners were: Mehran and Aadil! Congrats to them two for winning the comp!

Volleyball
For volley ball, we are learning some moves in volley ball. I found it really fun but quite challenging because I'e never played volley ball. One of the moves we learnt was to set. Setting is when you bend down and when you see the ball coming, you need to put your hands over your head and push your legs and arms when the ball comes really close. The Volleyball we used was soft because if we used the hard type and got hit on the head the head, there would maybe be For volley ball, we are learning some moves in volley ball. The three R's - Rugby, Racing, and running
In the 1960's, sort in New Zealand was dominated by the three R's- rugby, running and racing. The national rugby team, the All Blacks, had a great decade, winning 36 of the 40 games that they played. Many kiwis also spent their weekends at the local race track and, in 1960, Peter Snell won a gold medal in the 800 meter race track at the Olympic Games in Rome, Italy. He followed this up with two more gold medals in the 800 meter and 15 meter races at the Olympic Games.

Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 1 Activity 2: Lord Of the Rings (the movie)
Arguably one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time is Lord of the Rings, was made in New Zealand (Iv'e never seen Lord of the Rings.) All three movies were directed by New Zealander Peter Jackson. All three movies were made a year after another, the first in 2001, second in 2002 and third in 2003. The movies had to be paid $300M to produce!
Imagine that instead of spending the money on the movies, Peter Jackson decided to give all of this money to you. Lucky you! Comment and say what you would do with $300 million dollars. How would you spend it? It is a lot of money so please think carefully about it and spend it wisely.

Summer Learning Journey Day 2 :Peace out! (The 1960's)
Rock 'n' roll
Famous bands like the Beatles also started traveling all across the world in 1964, New Zealand hosted, arguably the most popular band of time... The BEATLES.
People were very excited to see 'The Beatles' and the hype around the band was known as Beatle-Mania ( quite similar to the modern day Beiber -Fever.)
The Beatles first stop was Wellington. Seven thousand screaming fans (like all the people in NZ came to see the first concert in Wellington) nearly all young women waited as the band touched down on 21st June 1964. One girl got hurt badly on her leg trying to climb a wire fence, and two others were through the fence because of pushing from behind. A team of 30 police officers, some in plain clothes, was on hand. Bill Brien, in charge of the operation, later said that:
"We underestimated the whole thing badly. The crowd was so big we had to... keep all people behind a wire fence. At one stage it looked like the fence would collapse, which would have been a disaster."
As the band off the plane, the shrieks of fans drowned out of the noise of the engines. Te Pataka concert party performed a haka, before doing a hongi (pressing noses) and presenting the band members with tiki.
Fans trekked back to The Beatles' hotel after the concert. The band was stuck inside as the gathered outside. Some kept up late-night vigil on the hill behind the hotel. Others tried to get round the script security; four girls strolled onto the sixth floor into the arms of Ringo Starr (formerly Starkey) met a group of Starkey's from the Wellington suburb of Karori.
